FRAMING & JOINERY
TIMBER, PROFILE & FINISH

Stock & Materials

We work with raw hardwoods selected for tone, grain and stability. Alongside walnut, cherry, oak, maple, sapele and ash, we can also source native species such as London plane, elm and English walnut, as well as exotic hardwoods including African ebony, rosewood and purpleheart. These rarer timbers are often used for details such as splines and inlays.

Profile Development

Each frame is developed in-house, with precise control over depth, face width and overall weight. Profiles are adjusted to suit the scale, medium and setting of the work, so that the frame sits in proper proportion to the piece. Hand-carved details can also be introduced where a more varied surface is required.

Joinery & Finish

We use a range of joinery techniques for strength, stability and detail, including edge splines, face splines and dowelled corners in matching or contrasting woods. Surfaces are hand-finished using oils, waxes and pigments, either to bring out the natural character of the timber or to achieve a specific colour and tonal depth.

Gilding

Gilding provides a finish and reflective quality that paint cannot match. We use traditional water and oil gilding techniques to apply precious metal leaf to handcrafted contemporary frame profiles. Genuine leaf is available in 23ct gold, white gold, moon gold, silver and other metal leaf finishes.
