The Framers London is an independent conservation picture framing workshop based in Camden Passage, Angel, Islington. We make bespoke frames by hand for artists, galleries, collectors and private clients, with close attention to material, proportion, preservation and finish.
We are looking for skilled, careful and reliable people to join our workshop team. These are hands-on roles suited to people who take pride in craft, accuracy and the careful handling of artwork.
We are currently recruiting for:
Framing Technician (full-time)
Hinging, mounting, fitting, assembly and artwork preparation.
We are looking for a Framing Technician to support the careful preparation and assembly of framed works. This role is focused on the handling, mounting and fitting of artwork, including works on paper, photography, canvas, textiles and three-dimensional objects.
The right person will be precise, patient and organised, with a good eye for detail and an understanding of how delicate materials should be handled. You will be working with artworks at different levels of value and complexity, so care and consistency are essential.
Responsibilities:
- Hinging and mounting works on paper
- Preparing artwork for framing using appropriate archival methods
- Cutting and preparing mountboard, backing boards and other framing materials
- Fitting artwork, glazing and backing into frames
- Assembling finished frames to a high standard
- Checking frames for dust, marks, alignment and finish before completion
- Handling artwork safely throughout the production process
- Stretching and stitching canvas, and assisting with textile and object framing
- Keeping the workshop clean, organised and efficient
- Working with the team to complete jobs accurately and on time
- Monitoring and maintaining stock levels
- Carrying out quality checks on each completed work
- Managing workflow and prioritising tasks to meet deadlines
- Supporting customer consultations and offering advice on mounting and framing options
Experience & skills:
- Experience in picture framing, mounting and fine art handling
- A careful, methodical approach to detailed hand work
- Good manual dexterity and confidence using workshop tools
- An understanding of conservation materials and archival methods, and a willingness to learn
- The ability to work neatly and consistently
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Respect for artwork, materials, tools and shared workshop space
Experience with Japanese tissue hinging, wheat starch paste, float mounting, window mounting, canvas stretching or object mounting would be an advantage.
Working hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm

Frame Maker (full-time)
Cutting, joining, sanding, finishing and preparing bespoke frames.
We are looking for a Frame Maker to work on the making and finishing of bespoke picture frames. This is a practical workshop role focused on accuracy, clean joins and high-quality finishes.
The right person will be confident working with timber, machinery and hand tools, with a strong understanding of measurement, angles, surfaces and finishing. Experience in picture framing is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Cutting mouldings and timber accurately to specification
- Joining frames with clean, precise mitres
- Sanding, filling and preparing frames for finishing
- Applying stains, waxes, paints or other hand finishes where required
- Preparing tray frames, shadow boxes, stretchers and bespoke profiles
- Checking dimensions, squareness, joins and finish quality
- Working from job sheets and production notes
- Maintaining tools, machinery and a tidy workshop environment
- Supporting the wider team with frame preparation and assembly
- Working efficiently while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship
Experience & skills:
- Experience in picture framing, joinery, cabinet making, furniture making or similar workshop production
- Confidence using woodworking tools and machinery
- Strong measuring and cutting accuracy
- A good eye for clean joins, surfaces and finishing detail
- The ability to work consistently across bespoke, one-off jobs
- Good organisation and time management
- A careful approach to health, safety and workshop practice
- A willingness to learn our materials, methods and finishing standards
Experience with Morso cutters, underpinners, saws, sanders, routers, stains, waxes, paints and hand finishing is necessary.
Working hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm
